Dawnfresh - Professional Services Case Study Assessing IT processes in a client’s newly acquired subsidiary and providing IT process consultancy during the takeover. Background In July 2008, Dawnfresh Seafoods Ltd purchased ScotTrout Ltd, a trout farming company based in Bellshill. From the time of purchase, there was no information on the IT systems and no onsite IT staff or outsourced contract. The Brief It was of critical importance to the business that the IT systems that supported the production line, ordering, invoicing and dispatch remained operational. Secondary to this, a complete understanding of the IT and IT processes needed to be gained to reduce risk and assist with ScotTrout’s incorporation into Dawnfresh. The Approach From the initiation of the project, an Adventi consulting team were on site; fully auditing all ICT systems, from telecoms lines to Windows-based production equipment and barcode scanners. Parallel with this, a process audit was undertaken to allow documentation of the information flow within the company pertaining to the ICT. The team then developed a project plan to support the integration of the two companies’ ICT systems with the minimum amount of impact on daily business activities. The Solution After interviewing key members of staff, meeting with all third party developers, and visiting remote sites and farms, Adventi were able to present to board members at Dawnfresh the state of the existing IT within ScotTrout and how it compared to that at Dawnfresh. Adventi were then able to provide analysis of outsourced contracts and put in place, where necessary, support contracts for IT infrastructure, working with third party support organisations as required. This allowed Dawnfresh to start thinking about the integration of the two companies with mitigated risk and better visibility.
